Giant pandas in Qinling photographed suckling for the first time   2017-04-25 10:10:16     


  This rare footage was captured by local journalists in Foping county in Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

  The journalists heard soft cries nearby when walking on a forest path.They were excited to found out that the voice was coming from a giant panda and its cub who were sighted resting on the upper branches of a big fir tree.

  The panda cub, about two years old, appeared to be a bit hungry and lied into its mother's arms craving for feeding.However,it was quite uneasy for panda mother to feed her kid as the branches have dense matted hairs.

  Then,its mother climbed down from the tree and lied on a slope to feed on bamboos.And the panda cub followed down the tree and sucked at nipple.

  Giant pandas are solitary animals,according to panda experts,giant panda cubs usually eat bamboo in the first year after they ware born, but maily feed on milk,then start weaning at the age of 2.

  Qinling Mountains is one of an important distribution area of giant pandas in China. Giant pandas in Qinling are unique in wild giant panda population for their unique genetic characteristics.

  There were about 345 giant pandas living in Qinling Mountains according to China's Fourth National Survey on Giant Pandas conducted two years ago. Area of the animals' habitat had increased from 347,000 hectares to 360,000 hectares over the past decade.

YA’AN Ya'an is a prefecture-level city in the western part of Sichuan province, People's Republic of China, located just below the Tibetan Plateau.The first giant panda was found in Baoxing County of Ya'an; Ya'an is also the origin of Artificial planting tea of the world; Mengding Mountain in Mingshan County, has been keeping seven tea trees, which are believed to be the origins of tea, for more than 1,000 years.
